7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to Dan returning from his week out of town, tomorrow my plans include cleaning, sewing, painting, eating, reading and Sunday, I want to try to have a positive attitude about having two meetings to go to!
Sometimes you're in the mood to blog, and sometimes you're not! Lately I haven't been in that mood, but this is my only attempt at journaling and keeping a family history (my scrapbooking rate is about 4 pages a year), so I better get with it!
Last weekend was the Young Women's Overnighter. Why do we call it that? Why isn't it just called a campout? It was really fun, with a couple of downsides. It was in the parking lot getting ready to leave that I suddenly felt like there were suddenly about 5 knives stabbed into my back, and I hadn't even lifted anything. It was good to be at the overnighter, though, to keep my mind occupied, except that getting into and out of the tent was a killer.

We played a game that night that reinforced my "stupidity" complex. We had to say three things about ourselves, one of them being a lie, and everyone had to guess which was the lie. First I said that I was valedictorian, and the bishop right off says, "No way." Then I said I was a cheerleader. I figure people would think this was a lie because I am so quiet, and not particularly cheerleaderish. (In fact, when I did try out for cheerleading, I put my parents into shock, and people would say how weird it was, that it just didn't fit. I ended up only doing it for a year, and then became a marching band groupie my senior year,which was a blast!) The third was that I was in a high school production of Oklahoma. What does it say about me that everyone right off guessed that I wasn't valedictorian? It was the fastest guess than any other person. Then I said that I graduated 11th in my class, and the bishop asked, "Out of how many? 12?" But that's okay, maybe it will be easier for me to say no to a calling next time he asks me!
Here's a picture of our week of learning to play the guitar. Jeremy really wanted to learn to play, and instead of signing up for lessons, we decided to try to teach ourselves and see how he liked it before we invested a lot of money into it. Well, it turns out, he really didn't like it. The great thing is he decided this in one week, so I returned the guitar to Walmart yesterday. If he wasn't playing trumpet right now, I might have pushed a little more, but one instrument at a time is enough. It was also too big for him, so maybe in a couple of years when he's a couple feet taller than me, he can try again. 
I thought someone might need a good laugh, so I thought I would post this. For everyone else who did this, it seemed very accurate. I'm not sure if I'll do any of these things again, because so far I have been basically described as a "brown colon." Now what does that make you think of?

I've done this three times. Twice I got colon, once question mark. I think too many of the questions have more than one right answer for me. Dan did it and was a dash, but I can't remember what it said, except there was something that said he was good with money. Anyone disagree with that?
I've been pretty busy this week, maybe I'll get to blogging about some stuff, but for now I thought the fill-ins would require the least brain energy:
1. The last time I lost my temper I did lots of deep breathing and put myself in time out!

3. The next book I'd like to read is Love in the Time of Cholera.

Numero uno: I'd like to reintroduce you to two of my children whom you may have forgotten I had due to my previous self-centered blog posts. Numero dos: Those of you that are addicted to Monk, and you know who you are, have probably already heard the sad news that the actor who played Dr. Kroger, Stanley Kamel, died of a heart attack. I can't imagine anyone else as Mr. Monk's psychiatrist, but it will be a while until we find out, since we're still on Season 4 DVDs and don't have USA.
Numero tres: Miraculously, we remembered to watch The Office tonight. Having watched the first three seasons on DVD, and forgetting to watch the early episodes before the writer's strike, I had a hard time with all the commercial breaks! It was good to see the gang again, but I think I like it better at the office, and I didn't really enjoy the arguing between Jan and Michael. But, yes, I did laugh many times--all Steve has to do is dart his eyes to the side or make a face and I'm laughing.
Numero quatro: I heard one of my favorite songs of all time on the radio this morning--"No One is To Blame" by Howard Jones. This song would probably be in my official "Top 5 Favorite Songs" if I had such a list. (It's surprising that I don't--maybe that will be a future post.) After they played the song, they were saying that Phil Collins played the drums for it and did the background vocals. I never knew!! Now that I've listened to it again, I can't believe I never noticed it before. Did anyone already know this? Here's the video. You gotta love the 80's hair!
Believe it or not, I do engage in activities each day that do not involve looking for good videos of Wicked. But . . .
I found a good one of Kristen and Idina performing "Defying Gravity."
I promise my next post will actually be about something important, like my kids. Now if I could just remember their names . . .
Some of us were discussing Wicked yesterday, and some saw Idina Menzel cast as Elpheba, the one on the soundtrack. Our Elphie was Caissie Levy, and I thought she was awesome. I liked her voice even better than the soundtrack, but that may have been just because it is always better live.
This first one is Elpheba and Glinda fighting, and then Elpheba sings "No Good Deeds." This Glinda is different, though. We saw Megan Hilty.
And of course "Defying Gravity." Each time she sings, "You can't pull me down" or "No one is ever gonna bring me down," the excess prolactin in my system is activated and I become a big crybaby.

If life gives you lemons . . . just blog about it, and that makes everything all better! I thought I would share just one little example of my clumsiness--the grape juice spill:
All I did was try to get the grape juice out of the fridge and it just slipped from my hand, broke the lid, and splashed all over the kitchen as far as six feet away. And of course I had just mopped the kitchen floor a couple of hours before. I was just about to use some heavy profanity (like CRAP!!) when I realized, ooh, I can take a picture of this to put on my blog. Instant mood lift. The very sad thing about this incident is that I do this about 5 or 6 times a day. I'm much worse than the kids. Just think of how many more pages of a book I could read a day if I wasn't cleaning up after my klutzy messes!

Kaylynn saw this on Rachael Ray and thought it sounded good, so she made it for us last night. It's sort of a casserole that you don't bake. What's fun about it is that the crunchy topping is made out of toasted, buttered English muffins ground up in the food processor. Yummy! I loved it just the way it was, but the kids were a little put off by the flavor of the Dijon mustard. To make it more kid friendly, I would just cut out the mustard and tarragon, and use poultry seasoning instead. Here's the link to the recipe:
